What Types of Ants Live in South Carolina and Georgia?
The most common ant species that can infest homes and yards in South Carolina and Georgia include:
- Fire ants
- Argentine ants
- Odorous house ants
- Carpenter ants
- Pavement ants
Fire Ants
Fire ants are small red ants, usually less than 1/5” long. They build mounds and can often be found in your yard, especially in sunny spots. They can be a real nuisance with painful bites, and can pose a real threat for those that are allergic.
Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants are black and between 1/2” and 5/8” long. As you may guess by its name, this species of ant prefers to live in and feed on wood. Carpenter ants may be found in moist areas and can threaten the structural integrity of your property.
Pavement Ants
Pavement ants are the smallest type of common ant you may find around the yard, driveway, or home, typically between 1/16” and 1/8” long. They are either black or dark red, and while these ants usually make their homes in cracks in the pavement, they can also make their way into your home.
What Types of Ants Live in South Carolina and Georgia?
We use integrated pest management (IPM) solutions, which use physical, mechanical, biological, and educational methods to effectively control ants and other pests, while reducing the risk to humans. IPM is not a one-size-fits-all approach; rather, we develop a treatment plan to fit your unique needs. Whether we’re sealing cracks, removing a food or water source, or, when employing traditional treatments, IPM is about using best practices to control ant problems.
Our Process
Step 1: First, we evaluate the infestation and customize a treatment plan in order to avoid random pesticide application.
Step 2: We place pest monitors, when needed, in pest-prone locations to accurately detect hotspots of pest activity.
Step 3: Finally, we apply a protective barrier to the outside your home to avoid future problems. Our goal is to solve your pest problem while minimizing pesticide usage in and around your home. The safety and health of your family and pets is our top priority.
